Description
The Potomac Valley Athletic Association (PVAA) is a youth athletic organization located in Cresaptown, Maryland. The mission of PVAA is to extend, foster and promote the ideals in ethics and conduct of youth athletic activities and to enrich our community through providing a safe and positive space for all stakeholders. PVAA, along with the Cresaptown Civic Association, maintains the Cresaptown Sports complex, which is an Allegany County Open Space area comprised of a walking track, Tennis/Pickleball courts, Basketball courts, a large covered pavilion, playground, and several ballfields. In addition to hosting 5 seasonal sport programs (Football, Cheer, Soccer, Baseball, and Softball), the complex hosts both community-wide and private events throughout the year, including local school fun runs, 5K’s, color runs, Trunk-or-Treats, community fundraising events, and Opening Day ceremonies for several of the sport programs. The Cresaptown Sports Complex is located in Allegany County Maryland, where they face a staggering opioid crisis. Opioids, usually in combination with other drugs, were involved in 87% of accidental overdose deaths in 2019 in Allegany County, and the rate of death related to overdoses has continued to rise since then. PVAA is faced with the hard truth that they must take action NOW to be proactive in protecting our community! PVAA board members and those involved in governing their five sport programs are in the process of organizing that Naloxone is kept on site, to be utilized in a lifesaving emergency situation, and that program leaders become BLS certified. In addition to these lifesaving measures, PVAA is also actively seeking grants and donations to purchase an AED device to be housed at the complex. The AED would provide an additional measure of safety should someone experience sudden cardiac arrest. With your monetary support, together, we can help make a critical impact in our community!
