Description

Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is the leading cause of death in student-athletes. It occurs when there is a sudden, unexpected cessation in heart beat. An automated external defibrillator (AED) can save the life of a person experiencing SCA.

Van Wert Cougar Athletics is seeking at least one portable AED unit for athletic events at off-campus as well as remote on-campus athletic venues. It is recommended that an AED be retrievable within 3 minutes of collapse to prevent brain injury or death. Much of our athletics occur at off-campus locations where there is no AED available (Smiley Park, Jubilee Park, Hiestand Park, etc.). We also have events occurring in more remote areas on campus where obtaining an AED within 3 minutes may be challenging (soccer field/track, football practice field, etc.). Having a portable AED unit at these locations would greatly expand our coverage ability for off-campus and remote on-campus athletics and make obtaining an AED, if ever needed, in keeping with the 3 minute retrieval window.

Please consider donating to our cause. Any contribution will propel us closer to covering the cost of an AED unit which could prove to be a life-sparing acquisition. Thank you for your time and consideration.
